31st of March 2000..... In a house in Elzenstreet in Nijmegen, Holland, a small group of people starts to practice for playing the bagpipe. The had been members of a pipeband, but for several reasons the started their own band.

After a few months there was a lack of space and they found a new practice room in the St. Nicolaasschool in Nijmegen where they still rehearse.

Very soon new members joined the band and it became necessary to have a solid organization. The 4th of October 2000 there was an official meeting to establish an association and the 5th of November 2000 the notarial act was signed.
Batavorum Pipes and Drums was founded.

After learning and practicing for more then a year under the leadership of the first Pipe Major Raymond de Lange, the band was ready for its first appearance. This happened on the 13th of January 2002 on the occasion of a festive afternoon of a hamlet in Beuningen nearby Nijmegen.

Meanwhile the band has 42 members, and in spite of a short existence already a lot of highlights can be mentioned, as there are: a first place in grade 5 at the BAG Open Championships in Schotten (Germany), the finals during the 4-Days Marches in Nijmegen in 2003 and 2004, and in October 2004 the band played Mull of Kintyre with the Beatles cover band Hard Days Night in Gürzenich in Köln (Germany) during the Beatles Classic Night.

Meanwhile the band has grown to 50 members and the location at the Ine Daleslaan was to small. In the spring of 2005 we moved to a new location, the SSGN at the IJsbeerstraat in Nijmegen.
